Zhejiang Police Academy grew out of Zhejiang Third People's Police Academy set up in 1984. It is a regular institution of higher education managed in a militarized way, mainly preparing students for successful careers in the penitentiary, correctional institution, court, security and precaution institution, bar and other walks of life.

Zhejiang Police Academy is located in Hanzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province , which is a world-famous tourist attraction. Covering an area of more than 516 mu with a floor space of 159,300 square meters, the college is well-equipped and enjoys a good condition of both hardware and software facilities. The total value of the teaching equipment adds up to 15.45 million RMB and the library has a collection of 330,000 volumes of books. The college has complete infrastructure such as modern teaching buildings, laboratories, library, gymnasium (sports center for students), shooting stadium, residence hall, students activity center, driving training center, etc. together with highly technical language lab, multi-media room, moot court, electrical and electronic engineering lab, computer basic lab, criminal investigation lab, security and precaution lab, computer professional lab. A good educational and academic atmosphere in the college facilitates the study, life, scientific research and cultural exchange activities for all the faculties and students.

Zhejiang Police Academy has a faculty of 445 with good teaching, researching or administrati-ve abilities, including 193 teachers (among whom 42 are associate professors or professors and 72 have got master's degree or doctor's degree). At present, it has Department of Criminal Justice, Department of Applied Law, Department of Security and Precaution, and Department of Information Technology and Management with eleven majors such as prison administration (provincial key major), enterprise administration, police service, correctional administration, information security (network security and investigation), secretary (secretary for legal affai-rs), legal service, security and precaution, security and precaution engineering, information management and computer network application and maintenance. The college has set up mor-e than forty experimentation and practice training bases inside and outside the college premise, of which security and precaution practice teaching base, receiving key supports from the national and provincial education departments, is a provincial and national model practi-ce teaching base .

The college is sticking to socialist orientation and carrying out the party's educational policy with “ honesty, diligence, self-discipline, innovation ” as its motto. It puts emphasis on education and the student's practical ability and aims at training students to be all-round specialized personnel with firm political stand, wide knowledge, proficient skill, sound moral integrity and strong body. Thousands of graduates are now working in the prisons, correctional units, people's high courts, people' s procuratorates, public security orga-ns, and the other related departments.
